Poem: Misshapen Breaks
This little heart, misshapen as it may be, breaks
For the letters you still keep
Her hand betraying who should have stayed
And it wasn't, no sweetheart, it wasn't me
Shouldn't stay, linger over the body and we betray
What was good, a spark and it's out before the flame even takes
She should have stayed, for you and for the end of the alphabet

It is wedding planning time or maybe you just love looking at pretty dresses (which, really, just shocks us at I Cit). Sleeves look great on women of all shapes, it can soften the harsh white tone on pale skin and cover arms we're sensitive about all while making us look regal and lovely for our big day.
A geek at heart? A socially awkward extrovert? Well most of us geeks fall somewhere between those lines. So for all the lovable geeks out there who need a little loving we thought to put together a fun and helpful list of sites, ideas and words of wisdom to help along a little nerd love.
Hipster Hating Cartoons from I Citizen. Dog's understand all too well that sometimes the treat is just too close to see.
Happiness is found when we stop looking without, hoping blindly to discover or be discovered by joy. It happens for most when we stop the need to look within the bottomless self and learn to Be, with a capital B. Joy, or that intangible ability to live with grace does not come without nor can it come from within, Happiness can only truly Be. It is a way of life, the movement forwards while never needing to be forwards.
I Don't know, no I don't know why there isn't any magic in the sky anymore
But for you, my dear, I would paint the stars anew
I would cast the bucket on the canvass and bring you to life
Let the moon hang off your neck, let the oceans glow in your eyes
Strip the lava from the earth and place it in your heart, beating as it were
I don't know, no I can't seem to see
Why there isn't any magic anymore
In the sky, in the night sky
But for you, my dear
But for you, my dearest of them all
Every single one
Who goes to Portland in the winter? Crazy people that's who and lucky for you you've got a rather crazy travel writer at hand to photograph the chilly yet tasty goodness that is Portland's Downtown in January.
There is, by the nature of differences between men and women's communication, near constant confusion for men about what women mean compared to what they say. A large part of bridging the language gap is to understand how much of what women say is the in emotion of the moment. Many men are more logic and problem solving based in their thinking, women feel what they think and while both come from a place of logic it can be a hard overlap...
Paris is thought of as a hub of foodie goodness and the chocolate crawls I've been on have not disappointed. Macaroons that taste like a rose-petal, chocolate with lemongrass and sugar, soft and nutty chocolate bites and orange flavored truffles made with the hand of a true artist. Go for your own Chocolate Crawl next time you find yourself in the city that has inspired more love stories with sweets than even my kitchen.
How valuable is happiness in your life? Go ahead, put a dollar amount on it.
Here is a shocker, sometimes spending money to save time is not the best way to maximize our happiness. It can be a real benefit to our lives to save money and gain not just more time, but better use of our limited time. In a world where we feel we have fewer and fewer economic options we can decide how to allocate our time, what we do when we're not working to put food in the fridge. For some the answer is outsourcing tasks and paying for free time. For many others the best choice is to spend time not money and gain a happy, well balanced life and bank account.

Dark velvet, baby it covers the eyes and makes it all good
Descends and finds a way to be, perfect and content
Bitterly content is the sweetest way to burn
Been burning since you came into this place

Tea can be a good place to start during the cold weather when your stomach begins to rebel from all the rich food and long nights. Try to avoid putting sweeteners into the tea but if you really need some sweetness try local honey, which will help your immune system and not be as hard on your blood sugar.
If you're like millions of people you will be spending at least part of the festive season with family, in a strange environment for your pet pooch. Taking an extra bit of notice to care for your dog in a new area, with the ever present holiday party dangers of too much rich food and poisonous treats we people love, is an easy way to make sure your buddy is healthy and alive for the new year.
Try something different each visit and get a grilled cheese to keep you warm as the frost starts to bite at your fingers. The healthy opinions and vegan choices are great even to non veggies.
School is back in and that means our summer diets of fresh berries and summer squash go the wayside of sugary treats and fall flavored candies. For the more discerning graduate student I've found Tobago mini wrapped bars in milk and dark chocolate. For the professor's Saturday mornings I've got chocolate pearls for making hot coco as the leafs turn ruby and rust.
How did this conference start? What's the root of its beginning?
29 years ago Lillian Dean, an admin at Cuesta College thought there should be a Writers' Conference that would invite published authors, agents, publishers and professional editors to the college to work with aspiring authors and the rich community of published authors in San Luis Obispo area. The goal was always to keep it small enough to be manageable and personal while offering interactive workshops
Had big, new dreams that haven't come true
You wanted to be a shining star
I always worried you'd be a shooting star, burning out before dawn
Heard your voice on an ad the other morning
Driving to work and there you were
Still sounded like the world belonged to you

I Citizen has found some great pieces to add to your get-outta-the-snow kit for this winter. From airplane friendly food containers to a hot jacket sure to help you get that flight attendant's attention and a hat for those topical destinations (no cabana boys included unfortunately).
With every good RV trip it a makes it an even better journey to add in a little thing to do, an adventurous task to be followed through on during the whole trip. Mine was decided as the cross country ice cream hunt, or ICH.
Happy Meal is a new web show about the comedic dangers of participating in reality TV cooking shows. An ex coke head, an overworked food critic and a dish washer come together to film the first episode of their reality show on cooking. Nothing seems able to go right and no one will ever get along after their first day on set.
Insomnia is one of those things you don't think about until you haven't slept for a week and are starting to nod off while driving to work or sitting in bed at four AM hoping you'll just pass out and not wake up for a day or two. So hopefully before you get to duct taping your eyeballs closed here are a few helpful suggestions to naturally get some rest.
This is an on going column for I Citizen on abuse and the process to heal for both Women and Men. 1 in 3 women will be abused in some form in their lifetime. Emotional abuse can be one of the hardest to heal from because it leaves no outwardly showing battle scares. These articles address the healing process and the signs and systems abusers use to control the abused.
The art of the abuser is to hide in plan sight, while everyone feels it is too impolite to intervene. We allow abusers to exist and thrive because of a social code of silence. The deafening quiet on this subject should chill us all to the bone. So many women are torn down, hurt and killed by abusers and yet still so little is done.

Across from a garage and a less than mellow area of Goelta sits one of my favorite spots for lunch in Goleta. The Goodland Market makes a few dishes for lunch each day, homemade lemonade and a muffin or two. The sandwiches are simple but filled with flavor, really more bits and bops of taste than you'd expect.
I like to think of the latter part of our lives as a Third Act, one which grows with us and is a culmination of all we have been and are becoming. The final act in a play is the most important one. It determines whether the rest of the play was worthwhile and is the final impression we take with us after the show's curtains go down.
Haven't I seen your heart ache before
That sparkle from the dark, that texture without touch
Knowing without seeing, loving without fearing
Oh aren't we sure by now that these aren't new days to us
Acne, pimples and Rosacea caused bumps are painful, bothersome and not always easy to overcome. Women have lots of help with covering and treating acne. There are many suggestions, tips and even makeup if all else fails. Here are some none-makeup, all natural and easy to work in at home suggestions for men.
On the boarder of China there exists a curious and often fought over peninsula, Korea. The last time that the peninsula, of numerous ethnicities, tribes and kingdoms was unified under one State was in 1897 by the Korean Empire. This Empire was short lived, however, falling thirteen years later to the expansionism of the Japanese Empire, a growing power then promising to be one of the major political and militar

As someone with severe insulin resistance I try and often fail to eat a little better than I should. That can be complicated by assignments involving food but more than not I try to keep healthy food around me to offset any wildly delicious goodies I may have from time to time.
As we get older things shift and change like sand on the beach. But something that should never change is dedication to taking care of yourself. As men get over the big Four-O their needs and health concerns change. Below is a small list of helpful herbal remedies for common health concerns men over 40 may already have or are interested in keeping in check.
The Lightkeepers is a sweet period film set in the summer of 1912 in Cape Cod. The director clearly loves his locations as he films them beautifully. This movie is worth a stream just for the excellent footage of the sea rolling

I still remember the early days of the Internet, when monitors were thicker than a mattress, mice still had balls, and RSS was the coolest new thing on the block. But now, with laser mice and flex-screens, RSS is a standard part of any website, and for good reason. A feed is much easier to track than a website, but even the feeds

The red flags strewn across the beach were a warning to stay out of rough tide, although on this visit I won the Darwin awards by not noticing and getting into the ocean to swim anyway. I had to be forcibly pulled out to get to shore, fun but perhaps not the smartest thing I've done all year (sadly not the dumbest either, but that's the life of your traveling photographer).
How to buy Gifts for Women
First rule of gift giving is that you should get as much joy from giving as she does from getting. Gift giving does not need to be stressful or cause issues in your relationships. We all know girls who get angry about being given the wrong gift.
Those, those that couldn't didn't
Strewn with the enemy, hard to tell them by the form; perhaps it's more in the eyes
The hammer fell and luck was had but not by them
We were the victors, but the cost was the reason for victory
Gave the haul to save our ship's cargo and yet no one sinks
Red dawned and we washed our hands
I love finding little places like Third Coast, it is not expected but is so appreciated to have quality, healthy food while traveling. Local people making a hard go of a great cafe is worth support both from the community and travelers just going through town.
By 2010 more than one-third of our American children and adolescents were overweight or obese. As 2013 begins in full Childhood obesity is a growing concern for all families, regardless of region or class. Helping our children have longer life expectancies and a better quality of life in adulthood starts with getting them exercising and eating right, two things not often all that easy for over stressed parents on time crunches.

The easy question: just what is it? 3D printing is the the common, journalist's name for a new technology that is technically known more accurately as “additive manufacturing(AM).” That name may sound daunting, but with a moment's thought it becomes quite self explanatory. Most traditional manufacturing, known as subtractive manufacturing, is the process of taking a quantity of raw material and refining it into a final product. A clear example

Saving a regular, dependable part of their income each month will help them have the resources to invest when times are good and the economy is strong and also give them the ability to get through the rough times when our global economy looks like a match house on fire.

Recently I got the very cool chance to go RV-ing from Ohio to Vermont; I Citizen was looking for new TravFan pieces and because of this lovely oddity of being a writer I had the opportunity to also cover the ins and outs of an RV road trip.
Allow us all to agree that allergies suck big time. But they really, really suck when they can kill you from an asthma attack. It's no easy matter during the highest allergy seasons for people with more sensitive lungs.

How do you love yourself when everywhere you turn it seems someone or something is telling you you’re not quite good enough? Finding inner joyfulness in today’s world can seem so overwhelmingly energy draining that many of us just give up and go on with our lives without ever committing to living a conscious life.
