After breakfast it’s time for a beachside walk under trees with canopies reminiscent of snakes intertwined and writhing toward the sky. Red flowers adore bushes and the footsteps of fellow walkers makes for a lovely and comforting morning walk.
For lunch before leaving for the airport I stop at Girard Gourmet, a tiny bakery and deli, which makes such good avocado sandwiches on their whole wheat bread that I may have to sleep under one of their tables. Girard Gourmet was filled with local people on their lunch break looking into the glass chases filled with tantalizing dishes. As I drove out of La Jolla and back to the airport I got a final look back at the tossing waves and sidewalks filled with people. La Jolla is a lovely and relaxing gateway from the usual rush of southern California.
