A cool ocean breeze on my shoulder and the smell of salty water relaxes even the busiest of minds. Meandering down the coast to the crowd of people lied up by one of the sea walls I can see all the harbor seals flopping onto the sand for their night’s rest. The sign stuck into the yellow sand says to stay away from the seals for breeding season but the seals don’t seem to mind the half circle of tourists and locals that surround them from a distance. Walking back to the car I get out a folding chair and set it out on the bright green grass to watch the sun set into a sea of pink and navy waves. After dark it starts to get too chilly so I pack-up and head to dinner. I decide to go for casual so I head over to the Spot, a fun bar and restaurant in downtown La Jolla. Inside are booths filled with talking visitors and locals on date night. The menu has a lot to offer, from veggie burgers to pizza to steaks.
